The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) recently published an annual report to the Legislature highlighting accomplishments including the purchase and reuse of equipment for its Petroleum Remediation Program, yielding more than $475K in savings in FY23. The program oversees the investigation and cleanup of petroleum contamination and administers financial assistance for associated costs. As sites are undergoing cleanup, NDEE pays for the purchase of remediation equipment, which it then seeks to reuse for cleanup at other sites.
Since 2005, this reuse program has saved Nebraska taxpayers more than $7M and allowed that money to be used for cleanup of additional sites. Read more about the Petroleum Remediation Program in Chapter 6, page 4 of the NDEE 2023 Annual Report to the Legislature.
