In an innovative approach to enhancing environmental quality in New York, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) have teamed up to encourage all of the state’s citizens to recycle used oil and lead-acid car batteries. DEC Acting Commissioner Basil Seggos commends the New York DMV in a joint press release issued earlier this week: “The DEC supports DMV as a partner in these awareness efforts as a complement to DEC’s outreach and educational materials to promote the proper management of these items.…Recycling these materials as well as recycling all other common materials like paper, metal, glass, and plastics will conserve our natural resources and make a difference for the environment.”
The agencies are providing information regarding how citizens can help make sure contaminants from motor oil and car batteries end up at a recycling facility. [Davies]
