The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is partnering with two other organizations – the state’s Department of Energy and the Oregon Sea Grant – on a program to connect businesses with interns specializing in sustainability. Interns in the Oregon Applied Sustainability Experience (OASE) spend a summer onsite at an Oregon business, examining strategic opportunities for the business to decrease its environmental footprint while saving money. The partner organizations provide mentoring and support for the interns.
In 2017 OASE interns made recommendations that would allow host business to:
- Save nearly $900,000;
- Reduce water use by 60 million gallons; and
- Reduce solid or hazardous materials by 8.5 tons.
The OASE program is funded through a grant from U.S. EPA. For more information, click here.
