On April 25, the White House hosted a virtual stop in Rhode Island as part of the Biden Administration’s “Invest in America” tour. Featuring U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Rhode Island Governor Daniel McKeee, the event spotlighted the award by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration of $691,000 for projects in Rhode Island to create jobs and boost economic and environmental outcomes for coastal communities.
Funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with additional funds leveraged from the Inflation Reduction Act, the awards center on coastline resiliency. One will be directed to the Department of Environmental Management through its Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve program, and the other is going to the City of Providence to evaluate the coastline at a site being considered for coastline access in an environmental justice community.
