With many residents and visitors enjoying activities on the Lower Saluda River, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and a variety of stakeholders came together to conduct enhanced monitoring of water quality during peak recreational season. A coalition of state and local government agencies, river-related businesses, environmental groups, property owners, industry, and others is coordinating resources to conduct more frequent water quality monitoring and make the information more readily available.
Goals of the project include allowing for more timely intervention when water quality issues arise, ensuring the safety of people using the river and allowing them to make informed decisions about when to use it, and educating the public about water quality issues.
The sampling results are available on in an easy-to-understand format here.
