January is National Radon Action Month, and the South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control is offering free home radon test kits on its website and sharing information on radon test kits for purchase from the National Radon Program for $15.
South Carolina staff note that elevated levels of radon have been found in homes in almost every county in the state, and that two homes next to each other may have different radon levels. A map of radon levels in South Carolina homes shows the results on a county level where there are more than 20 homes tested.
Community members may request a free test kit, watch a video of how to use the kit, find information on radon and lung cancer, find a list of credentialed radon professionals and resources on radon mitigation, see winners of the state’s radon poster contest, and access other resources here.
