State environmental agencies across the nation today are hosting events highlighting conservation and environmental issues in celebration of Earth Day. For example, Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection is hosting an Open House to spotlight its most popular programs, and agency staff are holding an outdoor meeting to share environmental advice and knowledge with visitors, offering tips on various topics like how to start composting at home. Meanwhile, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is partnering with the Oregon Humane Society and the nonprofit SOLVE, highlighting the importance of eliminating invasive species, restoring and caring for native plants, and fostering a safe, natural environment for the Humane Society’s dogs. And the Utah Department of Environmental Quality posted a video and quiz on its blog about the significance of Earth Day. [Miller/Parisien]
