The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) announced last week plans to award more than $2 million in recycling equipment, recycling rebates, and used oil grants for FY 2017 projects that help divert waste from landfills.
Recycling equipment grants and recycling rebates, supported by the Tennessee Solid Waste Management Fund, will be used to improve recycling infrastructure and expand access and participation in recycling programs. The used oil grants aim to reduce the amount of improperly disposed used oil by providing incentives to increase the number of collection facilities, helping to prevent contamination of local waterways and groundwater. Collectively, these grants will help to divert more waste from entering landfills, strengthen recycling programs, and help communities and local governments meet their waste reduction and recycling goals.
