Through an agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation has installed two new solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in natural areas within the state. Located in Pogue Creek Canyon and Window Cliffs State Natural Area, the solar stations will allow visitors to charge in areas where the existing electric grid cannot support standard EV chargers. The installation marks an important step in meeting the region’s ongoing commitment to clean transportation and air quality.
The collaborative project, referred to as the Fast Charge TN Network, is a segment of a larger multi-state initiative and aims to develop a network of fast charging stations across Tennessee’s major highways and interstates, placing stations at 50-mile intervals. Tennessee’s Fast Charge Network will also receive a helping hand from car manufacturer Rivian, which is working to install Level 2 EV charging stations across all suitable Tennessee State Parks.
