As Halloween nears, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is marking the occasion to dispel “zombie recycling myths’” that “keep stumbling around the internet…following us relentlessly.” Among the myths busted by TCEQ on its Take Care of Texas website:
- You must crumple plastic bottles and crush cans before recycling.
- Containers must be squeaky clean in order to be recycled.
- It doesn’t matter if something doesn’t belong in the recycling cart, the hauler will sort everything anyway.
- All glass is recyclable.
- You must remove plastic bottle caps before you can recycle bottles.
