In advance of the 2034 Winter Olympics, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (UDEQ) is contributing to a cross-agency initiative to host a Climate-Positive Olympics by working to improve air quality and environmental health throughout the state.
This year, UDEQ’s Division of Air Quality is proposing new source methane rules for new oil and gas sites. In addition, it has received a $74.7 Climate Pollution Reduction Grant to support its Beehive Emissions Reduction Plan, which aims to reduce pollution and GHG emissions through electric vehicles, chargers, and e-bikes; yard equipment incentives; solar power generation; oil and gas methane emissions reduction; and energy efficiency coaching and assessment programs to reduce emissions across multiple sectors.
