Several Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) staff members were recognized in May at U.S. EPA’s New England regional 2016 Environmental Merit Awards ceremony held in Boston’s Fanuiel Hall.
Honorees included DEC’s Eric Smeltzer for his lifetime of contributions to lake restoration and Steve Simoes for his individual efforts to combat hazardous waste. Also receiving honors were members of various DEC-affiliated teams, including Commissioner Alyssa Schuren, David Mears, Pete LaFlamme, Mary Borg, Kari Dolan, Padraic Monks, Eric Smeltzer, and Marli Rupe of the Lake Champlain TMDL Team; Carey Hengstenberg of the State Performance Partnership Improvement Team; and Cathy Jamieson of the Food Waste Management Prevention Team.
