In Virginia, thousands of brownfield sites are now recorded in a unique brownfield GIS dashboard available on the Department of Environmental Quality’s Virginia Environmental Data Hub. These sites, which include more than 100,000 acres of previously mined lands, are consolidated in one convenient location, facilitating the site selection process for brownfield stakeholders and other interested parties.
The project is designed to promote the reuse of these properties and meet market demand for investment. Stakeholders will also have easy access to information on nearby brownfields.
DEQ collaborated with Virginia Energy to centralize existing information into the unique dashboard.
