This week, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam announced an investment of $14 million of the state’s Volkswagen settlement funds into fully electric bus transit systems across the state. The investment represents 15% of Virginia’s allocation of VW settlement funds, which are managed by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
Under this decision, DEQ will implement a new Clean Transportation Voucher Program that enables transit systems to replace older, more polluting vehicles with fully electric buses. This investment complements a previous 15% allotment to develop a statewide public electric vehicle charging network.
