In accordance with Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order 17: Recognizing the Value of Recycling and Waste Reduction, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) recently published two reports on food waste reduction strategies and recycling market development. DEQ issued the reports to increase awareness of the importance of recycling, reduce food waste, and encourage the use of post-consumer recycled materials in manufacturing.
DEQ’s Recognizing the Value of Recycling and Waste Reduction report outlines strategies for food waste reduction and describes what actions universities, grocery store chains, and others are taking on the issue. The Opportunities for Attracting Post-Consumer Recycling (PCR) Product Business Entities to the Commonwealth report identifies waste-stream requirements for PCR companies located in Virginia, incentives offered to PCR companies by other states, and areas within the state in which to focus on new clean technology business development.
