In early October, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) hosted the Cabell County Water Festival as part of its ongoing Project WET (Water Education Today), which promotes awareness of and increased knowledge about water resources. Project WET water festivals educate students about water in interactive environments and offer alternative learning opportunities including structured stations and exhibits where students engage in fun, hands-on water activities and investigations.
The Cabell County Water Festival, attended by hundreds of area second-graders, featured a variety of stations geared toward water-related topics such as flooding, acid rain, erosion prevention, water conservation, the water cycle, fish, and aquatic insects.
WVDEP hopes these events will help continue to foster a generation of responsible stewards of the state’s natural resources. [Elkins]
