Here’s a good way to raise the visibility of the importance of protecting groundwater. With more than 70 percent of Wyoming’s population relying on groundwater for all or part of their drinking water supply, maintaining groundwater quality is critical. That’s why the Wyoming Department of Quality (DEQ), as part of the National Groundwater Association’s “Groundwater Awareness Week,” has designated March 13 as “Know Your Well Day.” This designation underscores the importance for private well owners to regularly inspect, maintain, and sample their wells, and to be aware of potential threats to groundwater nearby and on their property.
