Provide convenient mechanism to responsibly collect and manage mercury containing thermostats at the end of their useful life and divert them from disposal in landfills and waste to energy facilities. Collaboration between Covanta, Locke Supply–an Oklahoma-based Plumbing, Electrical & HVAC Distributor, with locations throughout the state–the Choctaw Nation, DEQ, the Product Stewardship Institute, and the Thermostat Recycling Corporation. Mercury is a heavy metal that represents a threat to human health and the environment when released into the environment. An average wall thermostat contains 4 grams of mercury, which is the equivalent of 800 compact fluorescent lights.
